A taste of competition with 150 days to go

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, April 20, 2017,: 150 days to go until historic 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat With 150 days until Turkmenistan hosts the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, final preparations are under way on the spectacular sporting facilities for the Inspiring Ashgabat Test Event Series, commencing on 23 April.

Boasting the most advanced facilities in the region, the Ashgabat Olympic Complex will host the Senior Asian Weightlifting Championships, the Asian Kickboxing Confederation (WAKO ASIA) Championships 2016/2017 and the Central Asian Short Course Swimming Championships between 23 and 30 April.

The Chairman of 5th AIMAG Executive Committee, Dayanch Gulgeldiyev, explained the importance of the Test Series: “Having major international events taking place in the Ashgabat Olympic Complex, is extremely important to test operational readiness by simulating Games-time operations.

“Test events aren’t only a key part of operational planning for us to be ready to deliver the best ever AIMAG, but they also represent a great opportunity for the people of Ashgabat to be able to see the Ashgabat Olympic Complex come to life. I’m sure that Inspiring Ashgabat will inspire the country even further and create additional excitement ahead of Ashgabat 2017.”

A number of First Stars will have their inaugural taste of competition at the Test Series. Over 11,000 students have registered for the First Stars volunteer programme, and all the volunteers will receive three types of training - general training, role specific training and venue-specific training – in preparation for their Games-time roles.

All training sessions are taking place at the Martial Arts Arena at the Ashgabat Olympic Complex, to set the scene for the Games and to allow volunteers to familiarise themselves with the venue. Entry to the Inspiring Ashgabat Test Event Series is free of charge, however, tickets are required for entry.

Fans who want to be a part of history while helping organisers assess the readiness of venues, can collect their tickets from the Ashgabat 2017 Ticket Box Offices at Berkarar, 15 Years of Independence Shopping Centre and Ashgabat Park from 14April.

The fifth edition of the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will commence on 17 September and feature 21 sporting events and will be held across 15 venues. Except for futsal and equestrian sport, every event will be held inside the sprawling Ashgabat Olympic Complex.

Once the competition is over, the Games’ facilities will be used as a sports training base for several educational institutions — Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management, Institute of Culture, the State Border Service Academy of Turkmenistan and the National Institute of Sports and Tourism.
